The Junior Development Program is an athlete centred program to develop excellent cross country ski technique in a fun environment. Key aspects are:
The program is intended for both “graduates” of the Ski League program and new skiers. As such instruction is tailored to the ability of each skier. The program is not a racing program and there is no pressure on participants to take part in loppets or races. However, for those skiers that like to be more competitive, the coaches are fully qualified to help athletes with more competition oriented training, including; dry land and on-snow training, nutritional needs as well as fitness, strength and speed testing.
The club is currently looking for a new Coaching Coordinator.
All sessions are held on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Stake Lake. Sunday classes run from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM, while Wednesdays and Fridays run from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. The on-snow part of the program begins as soon as there is sufficient snow to ski and is scheduled to run until Sunday, March 21st. The day lodge will open on Wednesday and Friday evenings to allow skiers to change afterwards. For those who are interested, some training concepts useful to all sports will be introduced.
For those interested in getting fit ahead of the season, there are pre season dryland training sessions.
