The Junior Development Program is an athlete centred program to develop excellent cross country ski technique in a fun environment. Key aspects are: To be fun (see painting photos) Develop good ski technique Increase fitness Help make new friends Develop a positive self-image The program is intended for both “graduates” of the Ski League program and new skiers. Therefore instruction is tailored to the ability of each skier. The program is not a racing program and there is no pressure on participants to take part in loppets or races. However, for those skiers that like to be more competitive, the coaches are fully qualified to help athletes with more competitive oriented training, including: dry land and on-snow training, nutritional needs as well as fitness, strength and speed testing. All sessions are held on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at Stake Lake. Saturday classes run from 10:30 am to 12:30 PM, while Tuesdays and Thursdays run from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. The on-snow part of the program begins as soon as there is sufficient snow to ski and is scheduled to run until Saturday, March 6th, 2010. The day lodge will be open on Tuesday and Thursday evenings to allow skiers to change afterwards. For those who are interested, some training concepts useful to all sports will be introduced. For those interested in getting fit ahead of the season, there are pre-season dryland training sessions.
